The city of Dover is continuing infrastructure work on the north side to accommodate a new manufacturing facility.
ProVia will eventually make windows there after buying the under-construction building from the Schaeffler Group earlier this year. Schaeffler’s plans to manufacture electric vehicle components, first announced in 2024, fell apart when the EV industry stalled out.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the 4.5 million dollars the city has invested in infrastructure work is protected in the switch from Schaeffler to ProVia.
The roadwork associated with the project has gone over budget by about $90,000 because of underground utility relocation. That work continues after Council’s approval this week. However, Gunnoe says other projects for stormwater, electricity and traffic lights were under budget by about $500,000 dollars.
ProVia officials say they expect to finish the building next year. Gunnoe says the infrastructure work will be completed well before then.
