The Ohio State Highway Patrol is promoting its Ride-Along Program to give anyone interested in a career as a trooper an up-close look at the job.
New Philadelphia Post Commander Lt. Brian Sponaugle says his post typically hosts seven to 10 ride-along’s each month, with participants able to choose a day, afternoon or night shift and ride for anywhere from a couple of hours to an entire 8-hour shift.
Sponaugle says participants also get to hear troopers describe the ins and outs of the job.
To participate, applicants must be between 18 and 39 years old, have a valid driver’s license and complete a brief interview with the post commander showing a genuine interest in becoming a state trooper.
Interested candidates can contact their local post to schedule a ride-along.
