A new Ohio specialty license plate aimed at raising awareness for mental health and suicide prevention among military veterans, active‑duty service members and first responders is now available statewide.
The SAVE22 plate launched this month in connection with Suicide Prevention Month. SAVE22 is a Carrollton‑based nonprofit founded in 2015 that offers peer support, therapeutic activities and community awareness events. Secretary and board member Josh Link says the new plates will be a major boost to the group’s fundraising efforts.
“For every plate that gets registered, $22 of that registration comes back to our organization to help fund these programs to get the guys out there and help. Running a non-profit, we are 100% volunteer-based. Nobody inside takes a paycheck.”
He says the goal is to spark conversations, reduce stigma and remind people that help is available.
“The logo itself, we have our branding on it, but if you look at the logo it says Struggling, Let’s Talk. Our biggest factor is helping people is getting them to open up and talk to somebody.”
Ohio motorists can purchase the SAVE22 specialty plate at any Deputy Registrar License Agency or through the Ohio BMV’s online registration services.
Link says the plate idea began in 2024 with an email to then-State Representative Brett Hillyer. After more than two years of work by advocates, community partners and lawmakers—including State Representative Jodi Salvo—the plate is now on the road.
