Dover Police say they assisted U.S. Marshals in apprehending two women who escaped Monday evening from the Stark Regional Community Correction Center in Louisville.

Authorities learned just after 7 p.m. that Hope Skerrett and Kerriah Ohler had exited through the roof of the rehabilitative facility and fled to a nearby nature preserve. Online records list Skerrett as 40 and Ohler as 29, with both believed to be from or have ties to the Dover–New Philadelphia area.

Dover Police Captain Michelle Seibert says marshals received a tip from a man renting an apartment in the 600 block of Race Street that the two women were inside around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Dover officers met marshals at the scene and used a police dog to search the residence.

“One of the US Marshal agents contacted one of our officers and said they’d be coming up to check a house that they got a tip on. When they arrived at the house, we met them and they utilized our canine to search the home of where the suspects were supposedly at.”

Seibert says the police dog led officers to the women hiding in the basement.

“I want to say like under the foundation, in a hole in the wall almost. They were buried in dirt. They’d buried themselves in dirt that’s why they were so dirty when they came out, but it was a surrender. There was no canine bite.”

She says both surrendered without incident, and no one was hurt. U.S. Marshals took Skerrett and Ohler into custody.
