Dover firefighters say a worker suffered severe injuries Thursday afternoon west of town when a piece of metal spouting he was helping lift to a roof made contact with a high‑voltage power line.

The worker was flown to a hospital in Akron. His condition was not released.

Dover Fire Captain Brooks Ross says crews were called to a Circleview Drive Northwest address in Dover Township around 2:50 p.m. for an electrocution. The worker was on the ground holding the spouting when it touched the line, sending electricity through the metal and into him. Firefighters moved the victim away from the hazard and called the power company, whose crews used specialized protective equipment to safely remove the spouting.

Ross says electricity can arc even without direct contact, making work near overhead lines especially dangerous. The incident is a reminder to use extreme caution when handling metal equipment near power lines.
