A new representative is crowned following the 70th Miss Clayland scholarship program competition over the weekend.

Out of 11 contestants, getting the title is 24-year-old Marina DeNunzio, from Shaker Heights.

“Graduate of The Ohio State University, I’m a seventh-grade Social Studies teacher at Shaker Heights Middle School, and my CSI [Community Service Initiative] is Plates of Promise: Fighting Hunger, Feeding Communities.”

DeNunzio says during her reign as Miss Clayland she intended to come back to Tuscarawas County and incorporate her Service Initiative

“My hope is to pour into 2nd & 7, which is our director Martha’s literacy program so I want to spend time in the schools reading to children…..I really want to pour into also the New Philadelphia food bank and bring my CSI into this area.”

As part of the win, DeNunzio received a $2,900 scholarship and a $500 in-kind scholarship to Kent State University – Tuscarawas.

“It feels incredible to come back. I’ve been around this program for so long, so to finally be Miss Clayland is incredible.”

As Miss Clayland, she has earned the honor to compete for the title of Miss Ohio 2027 in June.
