An operating levy is up for renewal in the Village of Dennison.

Mayor Greg DiDonato says about $49,000 is collected yearly on the measure that has been existence for a long time.

“The Village of Dennison has really only had two operating levies, and they existed when I started politics in the 80’s, so we have not added any levy or request for additional general funds. Really the Village of Dennison has not gone back to their citizens and hound people for more money. We’ve kind of controlled our budget, we’ve had some growth with income tax and other revenues, local government funds and things like that. We’ve done, I think, a great job of managing it and controlling costs.”

Issue 14 cannot exceed 1.5 mills and amounts to $25 per $100,000 of home market value. If approved, the levy would be on for the next five years and the dollars can be used for any village operation expenses.

“That kind of just goes into all things. They’re very important to us but they’re not large numbers in collection at the end. We have a little less than $2 million general operation for the village.”

Early voting is underway this week at the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Office on E. High Avenue. Election day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
