The Ohio Department of Transportation says its snow‑and‑ice fleet is ready for winter after crews completed their annual inspections this week.

District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell says mechanics performed a full 150‑point check on all 20 trucks that cover Tuscarawas County’s 17 snow routes — reviewing everything from engines and hydraulics to blinkers and windshield wipers. Loaders, which are essential for loading salt, also underwent full inspections.

Borell says the trucks are used year‑round for maintenance, and ODOT’s mechanics stay up‑to‑date as technology evolves.

She’s reminding drivers to prepare as well — checking tire tread, topping off washer fluid, and keeping blankets and water in their vehicles in case of emergencies.

As for the winter outlook, Borell says long‑range models are mixed, with some calling for a mild El Niño season and others predicting more snow. But she says ODOT will be prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings.
