New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day is urging residents to support Issue 9 — the city’s five‑year, 2.4‑mill parks and recreation levy on next Tuesday’s ballot.

Day says the levy would raise about $1.3 million a year to maintain and improve every city park, from upgrades to the restrooms and changing rooms at Tuscora Park to plumbing repairs at the pool. He says Waterworks Park needs restrooms and ballfield, boat ramp, and skate park improvements, while Southside Community Park requires bridge and trail repairs. The dog parks, soccer fields, pollinator garden, and parking areas also need ongoing maintenance.

Day says Issue 9 is an investment residents will see and he called city parks “one of New Philadelphia’s greatest assets,” places that bring families together and create lifelong memories.

The county auditor estimates Issue 9 would cost New Philadelphia residents 84 dollars per year for every 100,000 dollars of property value.
