The annual Fall Trout Derby is back at the Tuscora Park Pond this Saturday, October 31st from 8 to noon. Co‑organizer Mitch Pace and Park Board member Jan McInturf were on the air this week with details about the free event for kids 17 and under.
Organizers have stocked the pond with 2,000 pounds of trout — rainbows, brooks, browns, cut‑bows, golden rainbows, blue bows and tiger trout — with some topping 10 pounds. Pace says the spring derby’s popularity led them to add a second event each fall.
The first tagged trout caught Saturday wins a Lake Erie walleye charter, and additional tagged fish can be redeemed for spinning combos and other prizes.
Volunteers will be stationed around the pond with scales, and official weigh‑ins take place at the gazebo. After the kids’ derby wraps up, the pond and tagged‑fish contest open to the entire community.
More details are available on the New Philadelphia Trout Derby Facebook page.
