A fatal crash south of Gnadenhutten is under investigation after a head‑on collision killed one driver Monday morning.
State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Bill Bower says the crash happened around 7:52 a.m. on Edwards Ridge Road SE. Sgt. Bill Bower says a southbound vehicle went left of center and struck another vehicle head‑on.
The driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line was not wearing a seatbelt and died in the crash. The State Highway Patrol identified her as 29-year-old Megan Mazzoleni of Gnadenhutten.
Troopers were on scene for about an hour and 45 minutes. A crash reconstruction team is working to determine why the vehicle went left of center.
Each vehicle had a 6-year-old child on board. Both were properly secured. Both were flown to Akron Children’s Hospital for treatment. The surviving driver, a 43-year-old from Port Washington, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected at this time, and the crash remains under investigation.
