Ambulance fees could go up in the city of Dover if Council approves. Fire Chief Russ Volkert proposed the increase at Monday’s Council meeting.

Rates would increase by as much as 200 dollars for an ambulance ride. However, Mayor Shane Gunnoe says insurance companies and Medicare would absorb the cost.

Volkert said the new rate fee would be from 800 for basic life support to 950 dollars for advanced life support. It would generate about 20,000 to 30,000 dollars more per year to cover rising capital expenses, including station upgrades and ambulance purchases.

Gunnoe says the city has bought two new EMS vehicles in recent years.

City Council will vote on the proposal at a future meeting to go into effect by January 1st.
