George J. Nagy, 88, of Sugarcreek passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the Truman House in New Philadelphia following a brief illness.

He was born in Cleveland on September 25, 1932, to the late Gedeon and Johanna (Walter) Nagy and married Margaret Wells on May 21. 1955. She survives.

George worked at several jobs in Cleveland, the last one for 18 years as a shipping clerk. In 1983 he and Margaret bought the Dutch Host Motel in Sugarcreek and managed it for 12 1/2 years. They then settled in Sugarcreek.

George served in France from 1952-54 in the Army. He was a member of the Garaway Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carol (Tim) Simpson of Empire, OH, Alan Nagy of Jacksonville, Fla., Wayne (Kimberly) Nagy of Alachua, Fla., and Diana (Chris) Farris of Columbia Station, OH; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Andy Nagy of Montana, Joseph Nagy and Violet Pivnika both of Cleveland.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Gedeon, Charles, and Jack; his sister Katherine; and infant sister Johanna.

In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
