Gwen Rummell Reporting –

AAA is advising motorists to be cautious during the upcoming Labor Day travel period.

The holiday signifies the end of summer and with a longer weekend, many families are expected to take advantage of traveling to a vacation destination or to visit relatives.

Lynda Lambert, Media Spokesperson for AAA East Central, says those planning to travel should leave as soon as possible.

“The best time [to travel] is going to be early in the morning. Especially, on Friday because between 11 am and 9 pm, the roads are going to be heavily congested. When returning on Monday, you really should do the same thing. You should get up and leave early or wait and leave later in the day.”

Lambert says current gas prices should not affect travel, as last year, they were higher. The AAA mobile app offers the best gas prices based on a motorist’s location.

For breakdowns or any other unexpected situations, AAA can be contacted through their app or at 800-222-4357.
