A collaboration has formed between three local entities to provide trauma informed care training for mentors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters announced the partnership with Ohio Guidestone and Noah’s Hope Child Advocacy Center to offer training to support littles.

BBBS President and CEO Beverly Pearch says this initiative is a step toward in ensuring Bigs are well-equipped to make a lasting positive impact for Littles who have experienced trauma.

“So, all of our mentors already go through mentor training and child safety training. This is going to be in addition and it’s going to take place, and they’ll get that training provided through Ohio Guidestone.”

This type of training can be critical between a Big and a Little, points out Pearch.

“Some of our kids have experienced trauma so these trainings will equip them to have better knowledge and skills to support children who have experienced trauma, and that ensures that the little receive the compassionate care that they deserve.”

The partnership also includes the Carroll County Health Department, who agreed to put on a training for community-based mentors in Carroll, Harrison, and Tuscarawas counties.
