Dover is ready to welcome a few new commercial entities to the city, including a new grocery store.
ALDI is planning to break ground on a new supermarket on Ohio Avenue in about two weeks ahead of a 2027 opening. Mayor Shane Gunnoe says the process to bring the 20,000-square-foot store to the corner of Wooster and Ohio avenues has gone smoothly. There is room on the property for other businesses, and Gunnoe expects an announcement about that in the not-to-distant future. He says the city is not worried about the traffic impact, but officials have commissioned a study.
Meanwhile, East of Chicago Pizza is working on a new downtown location on North Wooster Avenue. The Dover City School District bought the old East of Chicago building near Dover Middle School and tore it down in the name of potential future school expansion.
Also, the Tribute Bistro restaurant will have a grand opening on September 18th. That will be in the former Factory Street Pub on North Tuscarawas Avenue. The city awarded the owners a $4,100 bed tax grant for upgrades to the building that dates back to least 1900, according to county tax records.
