Alfred W. Tango, 97, of Strasburg and formerly Baltic passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Aultman Hospital in Canton following a brief illness. He was born on September 3, 1925 in Cleveland to the late Giovanni (John) and Marianina Tango. His beloved wife of 70 years was the late Janice C. Tango, whom he married on September 14, 1946. Al retired in 1985 as a supervisor from General Electric in Dover. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Baltic American Legion, Baltic Lions Club and he served on the Baltic Town Council for several years. He was also a member of the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. Al was an avid fisherman, golfer and bowler. He enjoyed woodworking, being outside in the woods and spending time with his family. He attended St. John Lutheran Church in Baltic.
He is survived by his children Ken (Sue) Tango of Dover, Ned (Carol) Tango of New Philadelphia, Carla (Steve) Stein of New Philadelphia and Jan (Bill) Harstine of Strasburg, his 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and his sisters-in-law Marilyn Von Allman of Windsor, Colorado and Sandy Kleinknecht of Sugarcreek. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Vincent Tango, Joseph Tango, William Tango, Rita McDonald, Helen Frey and his great grandson Nathan Stein.
Services for Al will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek with Pastor Barb DeBord officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 4-6 pm. A private family committal will be held later at West Lawn Cemetery in Baltic with military honors being conducted by the Sugarcreek American Legion Post #494.
