Andrew M. “Andy” Miller, 85, of Strasburg, passed away serenely on Monday, May 6, 2024, at his home following a period of declining health.
Andy was born in Sugarcreek on February 13, 1939, to the late Melvin A. and Mary J. (Miller) Miller and on September 18, 1965, he married Alberta Edwards. She survives.
He was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church where he was a Stephen’s Minister and a Sunday School Teacher. He graduated from Bailey Technical School in Diesel Mechanics in 1961. He owned and operated Miller’s Diesel Service in Winesburg after many years as a field service mechanic for Cummins Diesel. In retirement, he also worked as a Coblentz family driver for Mavin furniture manufacturing near Winesburg. Andy also enjoyed bowling in multiple leagues, and for several years had his hobby farm appreciating and raising a variety of animals.
Andy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alberta; his three daughters, Phyllis Ann (Robert) Yoder, Rev. Mary Jane Miller (Paul) Norville, and Heidi A. (Tim) Fortney; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 2 daughters, Sandra Kay Miller and Cathy Lynn Miller; and his 3 siblings.
Family and close friends will gather on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a graveside service to follow at 12:00 p.m. in Union Hill Cemetery with Pastor Charles Grimes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made in Andy’s memory to Ohio’s Hospice Children’s Grief Camp Programs at 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
