Mary Alice Reporting – Tuscarawas Board of Election offers insight into important dates ahead of Ohio’s second primary.

The Ohio Secretary of State announced the election will be on August 2nd after redistricting maps were settled.

Tuscarawas Board Director Gail Garbrandt explains that the only races in this primary will be to select nominees for the State House, the State Senate, and the State Central Committee representatives for the democratic and republican parties.

For anyone who missed the voting deadline earlier this year or if a name or address change has since happened, the registration deadline is Tuesday, July 5th.

“If you’re voting absentee, even if you voted in the May 3rd primary, if you are intending to vote in the August primary election, you would still need to send an absentee ballot application to us by Saturday, July 30th at noon.”

Early voting will start July 6th and for three weeks, the Board of Elections office hours will be extended from 8 am to 5 pm.

“And then that last week before the election [July 25th to July 29th] we extend our voting hours to 7 pm and then the day before the election, August 1st, we are open from 8 am to 2 pm.”

In local races, running as unopposed Republicans are Brett Hillyer for 51st District Representative and Al Landis for the 31st District Senator. Several names are vying for votes to represent the 31st District Central Committee in their respective parties.

Anyone with questions about the second primary is asked to contact the local board by calling 330-343-3125.
