Dover Police say a clerk at the Speedway gas station on South Wooster Avenue near the fairgrounds was injured during an attempted robbery Monday evening.
According to a press release, the female clerk called police to report she had been struck in the head at about 6 p.m. before the suspect fled on foot. It doesn’t say what she was struck with. The victim was taken to a nearby medical facility, where she was treated and released.
Several police cruisers from area departments and a crime scene investigation truck responded and were at the gas station for at least a couple of hours, blocking off the entire parking lot with crime scene tape.
The press release says Dover Police did quickly detain a person of interest for questioning. No details were given on that individual.
Investigators are working to gather more information and determine the circumstances of the attempted robbery.
The gas station is open this morning.
