Barbara Jeanne Albaugh, 91, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Dennison, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 8, 1930 in Flushing, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Edmund A. and Zethadale (Bethel) Slensby. She lived all of her life in the Twin City area and attended Uhrichsville High School.
On July 20, 1947, she married George Albaugh, Jr. with whom she shared over sixty-four years of loving marriage until his passing on October 6, 2011. Together, they raised three daughters who survive, Bonnie L. (James) Kreinbihl with whom she had resided, Brenda K. Albaugh of Canton, and Lora B. (Ted) Morrow of Dennison. Among other survivors are her brother, Jack (Lucinda) Slensby of Arizona; sister, Patty L. Dwyer of Florida; ten grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Antal of Sevierville, TN, Emily (Paul) Swaney of Dennison, George (Mandy) Cottrell III of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennifer (Donnie) Pallaye of Dellroy, Michael (Torie) Rankin of Uhrichsville, Lucas (fiancée, Amber Haney) Cottrell of Dennison, Sarah (Chuck) McPherson of Dennison, Elizabeth “Libby” (Jon) Striker of Uhrichsville, Katy (Geoff) Wissman of Pickerington, and Gretchen (James) Beard of Radcliff, KY; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more expected this summer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons-in-law, George Cottrell, Jr. and James L. Kreinbihl; niece, Gaye (Slensby) Kulikov; brothers-in-law, Paul Dwyer and Fred Gauvey; aunt, Florence (Figley) Patterson; and most recently, her granddaughter, Rebecca Dewitt, along with her husband, Jason Dewitt, and their son, Brennan Dewitt, all of Maryville, TN.
Barbara was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and formerly the First United Methodist Church of Uhrichsville who had been very active in the United Methodist Women in both congregations, serving in the church kitchen for many events from weddings to funerals over the years. She was a former Bible School and Sunday School teacher, as well. At Broadway UMC, Barbara enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and the Ladies’ Lunch Bunch.
Services, officiated by Pastor Harley Wheeler, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, at R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. She will be interred beside her beloved husband at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church.
