Barbara Lou Thurman, age 89, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover.
Born on July 1, 1935, in Dennison, Ohio Barbara was a daughter of the late Harry and Veda Edwards Furbay.
A graduate of the former Uhrichsville High School, Barbara spent her professional career as a switchboard operator for Union Hospital at Dover. On October 3, 1954, she married Norman Thurman, and together the couple had four children.
Barbara had a deep faith in the Lord, enjoyed reading her Bible, and was an active member at the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene. She found joy in decorating her home, helping others decorate their homes, and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to her husband of 70 years, Barbara will be deeply missed by her family that includes four children, Tim (Nancy) Thurman of Canton, Tag Thurman, Todd (Lisa) Thurman, and Tammy McGuire all of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Tori Thurman, Brandi (J.D.) Thompson, Tyler Thurman, Kevin Thurman, Leslie (David) Truesdell, and Cheyenne (Josh) Seldenright; her great-grandchildren, Ella, Alle, Adam, Micah, Olivia, Levi, and Millie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, H. Dwayne Furbay and Beverly Cummings.
The family will greet guests on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 4 – 6 PM in the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia where a celebration of Barbara’s life will take place at 6 PM. A meal and fellowship will follow in the church social hall. In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, cremation care will follow her services. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.
