Barbara Viola Border, age 92, of Wooster and formerly of New Philadelphia, died early Thursday, July 23, 2026, while in the care of Smithville Western Care Center.

Born in Jefferson Township, Tuscarawas County, on November 13, 1933, Barbara was a daughter of the late Corliss R. and Viola T. Swinderman Patrick.

After graduating from the former Stone Creek High School in 1951, she married Bruce W. Border on January 26, 1955. Barbara spent many years of her life caring for her family at home, and later in life, worked at Burger King in New Philadelphia.

While living in Tuscarawas County she was a member of the New Beginnings Church at Dover and upon relocating to Wayne County, joined the Church of God, A Worldwide Association, in Massillon. For many years Barbara was an active member and volunteer at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center but was most known for her lifelong passion for crocheting and quilting.

She is survived by a daughter, Sara (Brian) Hawk of Wooster; a son, Ray Border of Wooster and a grandson, Ethan Hawk; a brother, Paul (Irene) Patrick; a sister, Harriett Duncan and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce in 2019; three brothers, Howard (Shirley) Patrick, John F. (Nancy) Patrick, and Gene (Ruth) Patrick; and her brothers-in-law, Geroge Harding and Bill Duncan.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Chad Messerly will lead a service beginning at 6 PM. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
