Members of the Dover Basketeers will be at the Dover Public Library Monday night.
Back in the 1950s and ’60s, they were a few of the middle school and elementary-age boys who performed basketball exhibitions for entertainment during halftime shows. Monday night they will explain how they went from high school games in Cambridge and Uhrichsville to sharing a plane ride with the Lakers and appearing in a movie with Jerry Lewis.
Colby Byrum was part of the Basketeers in 1961 and 1962. He remembers back-to-back shows at Madison Square Garden and
the Boston Garden. Only the flight to Boston was delayed.
Don Mauer will be at the library, too. He joined the Basketeers in 1958.
The Dover Basketeers program will be at the Dover Public Library Monday at 6:30 p.m.
