Buckeye Career Center is continuing a tradition of supporting its own youth in the agricultural community and local charities at the same time.

The career center for the 14th year in a row purchased a hog at last month’s county fair, this time belonging to construction student Madison Cottrell.

Marketing coordinator Shyanne Carroll says staff members donated the nearly 16-hundred dollars raised to purchase the hog; no tax dollars were used.

Carroll says students in buckeye’s meat-cutting, deli, and bakery program processed the meat, which was donated to the Dover New Philadelphia food pantry and recently distributed.

Carroll says the 212 dollars left over after purchasing the hog was donated to the buckeye foundation’s Shannon Wigfield memorial scholarship, in honor of the longtime buckeye instructor who died in the Tusky Valley charter bus crash last November.
