Tuscarawas County Health Department officials are telling families about right and wrong ways to serve those thanksgiving feasts.
Environmental Health Operations Administrator Mike Kopko says there are still some ways to properly thaw a turkey, aside from putting it in the refrigerator at least a day or two before the meal, or run cold water over it in the sink, or microwave it, the faster the better.
Try to avoid cross contamination by using separate cutting boards and prep spaces.
Kopko says when cooking, make sure the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit the whole way through before serving.
Kopko says food should be left sitting out for more than two hours and it’s best to get it in the refrigerator as soon as possible after the meal is done.
