Betty Ann Neidenthal, 91, of Strasburg passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Hennis Care Centre in Dover.

Born on January 30, 1933, in Beach City she was a daughter of the late Harry and Nellie Bratton Slayman. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Neidenthal on December 15, 1989; son, Jeff Neidenthal, brothers, Bob and Paul Slayman and sisters, Jane Hill and Mabel Kandell.

Betty was a 1951 graduate of Beach City High School. She had been the high school secretary at Strasburg Schools for many years, and finally retired in 1998 from UPS in New Philadelphia.

Throughout her life, Betty was known for her incredible generosity and kindness. Her home was not just a residence, but a gathering place filled with laughter and joy. She was often surrounded by her children and grandchildren, passionately attending their sporting events and school activities. Her house was always open to the friends of her children and grandchildren, earning her the affection of many who fondly referred to themselves as part of the “Betty Squad.” This special group of boys could frequently be found playing basketball on her garage hoop, a testament to her giving spirit and her ability to create memories. Though she was a woman of few words, Betty’s actions spoke volumes. She was known as a caretaker to many, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors and family alike. Her devotion to her loved ones and her readiness to provide support to those in need have left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Betty was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, where she participated in the choir during her younger years. She found joy in simple pleasures such as solving crossword puzzles and tending to her flower garden, showcasing her appreciation for creativity and nature.

Her legacy is reflected in her family, including her sons, Mike (Susan) Neidenthal of Nevada, Bob (Melinda) Neidenthal, and Matt (Melanie) Neidenthal, both of Strasburg; her brother, Harry Slayman; her sister, Nancy Fox both of Beach City; and her daughter-in-law, Gail Neidenthal of Florida. Betty took pride in her grandchildren: Lauren (Zach) Twigg, Drew, Audrey, Terra, Jaclyn, Brandon, Lucas, Matthew (Cortney), Mike and Mitch Neidenthal, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Isabella Twigg. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her presence.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20th starting at 12 noon in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Strasburg with Pastor Jason Rissler officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery. The family will be greeting friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Church of Christ at 516 N Wooster Ave., Strasburg, Ohio 44680.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Hennis Care Centre for their compassionate care shown towards Betty for the past year and a half. Thank you.
