Betty J. Burgan, 83, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Akron City Hospital.
She was born in Holmes County on March 30, 1938 to the late Earl and Esther (Umstead) Renner and married Archie Burgan, Sr. on August 24, 1962. He died on June 27, 2002.
She worked at Case Farms in Winesburg for many years. Following that she worked as a clerk for several of the area gas/convenience stores.
She was an avid crocheter and baker.
She is survived by her children, Roscoe “Mike” (Peggy) Burgan of Shreve, Bill (Vickie) Burgan of Baltic, Archie (Lori) Burgan, Jr. and Laura (Robert) Rowe both of Sugarcreek; daughter-in-law Nancy Burgan of Dover; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and siblings, David Renner, Sr. of Baltic and Linda (Jon) Brown of Sugarcreek.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Raymond Burgan and Michael (Nancy) Burgan; siblings, Dennis (Janet) Renner, Annabelle (Charley) Zedi, Harold (Joyce) Renner, Margaret Irene Renner, Alverna Flaherty and Donna Trasse; sister-in-law, Carol Renner; daughter-in-law Charlotte Burgan; and granddaughter Valerie Burgan.
Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-7 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek. The family is requesting those who attend to please wear masks.
