Betty June (Gatchell) Shaw, 95, of Uhrichsville, passed away on January 28, 2023, under Hospice Care at the Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
She was born in Dutch Valley, Uhrichsville June 11, 1927, to the late Charles Rees Lobb and Helen Hutson Lobb. Betty was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School class of 1945 after which she attended Air Technical Service Command at Tiffin University. She worked at Postel’s Grocery, Greenlee’s Grocery, and as a secretary at Quimby’s Holsum Bakery, F.B. Maurer Markets, and Stoll’s Country Cupboard.
Betty enjoyed gardening, reading, her computer, and spending time at her grandparent’s farm outside of Gnadenhutten as a child and where she eventually lived after the death of her second husband. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Grace Singers, and held many offices in the 82 (as of 2022) years of her membership.
Betty was married to Dean Gatchell on November 20, 1947, until his death in a motorcycle accident on July 31, 1983. On February 18, 1992, she married Harold Shaw of Uhrichsville until his passing on August 30, 2010. Betty is also preceded by two sons-in-law, William “Ike” Beckley, and David Reichert.
Surviving are three daughters: Polly Jo Beckley of Kingman, Arizona, Debra Lee Reichert of Gnadenhutten, and Deana Lynn (Mark) Kress who still reside on the farm; two grandsons: Dustin Allen (Tammy) Naylor of Gnadenhutten and Troy Douglas Naylor of Carrollton; sister Janice (Tom) Carruthers of Newcomerstown and a special verbal adopted son, David (Sissy) Markley of Uhrichsville, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, five step-children: Harold “Buddy” (Connie) Shaw, Shirley Trolio (Les) Shinaberry, Tom (Nancy) Shaw, Patty Winrod and Wanda (Pat) Cahaney; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and a funeral service starting at 1:00 P.M. All will be held at Koch Funeral Home of Gnadenhutten, 244 N. Walnut Street with Pastor Larry Malterer officiating the service. Burial will immediately follow at Patterson Union Cemetery in Deersville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Truman House or to Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville.
