Mary Alice Reporting –

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio at their new location in New Towne Mall.

The Wednesday afternoon ceremony invited community members to see the new space and come together as a community.

President and CEO Beverly Pearch says they are always looking for adults to take time out, each month, to be a friend and mentor to local youth.

She does not that safety is key, so an application and interview process does occur.

“Within the interview process, we get to know a little bit more about them, what their interests are, why they’re interested in being a big. Once all of those pieces are put together an assessment so we can go to a list of our kids. We don’t match just because a kid has been waiting the longest. We want to make the best possible match.”

Pearch notes that they ask Bigs to interact with their little at least four hours a month.

Big Brothers Big Sister of East Central Ohio serves children in Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties and are also active in eight school districts, connecting younger children with older youth.
