Mary Alice Reporting –
Motorists will need to use caution around Kent State Tuscarawas as a bike lane project starts.
Crews are expected to begin work on this Monday August 5th to widen E. High Avenue from the college entrance down to State Route 39.
Ohio Department of Transportation Regional Public Information Officer Morgan Eibel says motorists need to be aware that some delays and traffic congestion may occur.
“Traffic is going to be maintained with lanes shifts and at times flaggers. I think that motorists are likely to see lanes shifts during that work for adding the bike lanes.”
This project will start at the Kent Tusc entrance before moving toward the city of New Philadelphia and will also include other enhancements.
“The project also includes work on curbs, driveway aprons, drainage work, and then followed by resurfacing the nearly 2.5-mile section of E. High Avenue.”
City Service Director Ron McAbier notes that it’s a $2.5 million project and New Phila paying about 10-percent.
“Fortunate to get grants to pay for the rest. Almost two and a quarter million dollars’ worth of grants through ODOT. Very fortunate to get this done.”
Completion will be by the end of October.
