The 176th Tuscarawas County Fair will run September 21st through the 27th.
With roughly one month until opening, the fair board is working to ensure the community is aware of a few changes, starting with opening ceremonies held Sunday, September 20th.
Director At Large Wendy Vogel says that event will begin over an hour earlier in the main show arena.
“We’ll be crowning the new king and queen at 5 followed by the auction, quilts of valor, and all the great stuff the 4-H do there.”
Jonna Cronebaugh says a general admission increase will occur for the first time in at least 20 years, bringing entry to the fair to $10.
“It’s been the same for 20 plus years, and it just had to change. Everything has gone up. Obviously, we can’t make everybody happy, but it was time to do that.”
The board is bringing back free, general admission for the grandstand events Monday through Thursday, which is motocross, the Band-O-Rama, rodeo, and trucks and treats. The only events requiring tickets, at $14 per person, will be the truck and tractor pulls on Friday and Saturday and Sunday’s demolition derby.
Meanwhile, Vogle says within the Fine Arts Building, there are some new household art categories.
“Quilted art. I’ve added decorated flowerpots that I’ve divided into categories of kids under 12, kids 12 to 18, and then over 18. I also added Legos and building blocks.”
Fair board members also note that the kiddie tractor pull is moving to the track area during Thursday’s trucks and treats. The small animal sale starts earlier on the 26th at 1pm.
