Bonnie J. Cottrell, age 72, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, died Monday afternoon, September 15, 2025, in her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born November 27, 1952, in Steubenville, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Frances (DeClare) Stackhouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Kelly Cottrell, who died July 23, 2020, and a brother.
In addition to her responsibilities as a homemaker, Bonnie was formerly employed as a receptionist for Belknap Chiropractic in New Philadelphia, Ohio. She also had experience in other medical related fields including Aultman Hospital and home healthcare. She proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam Era and attained the rank of Corporal. She graduated in 1970 from Carrollton High School, although she had attended Conotton Valley High School until the middle of her junior year. She always associated herself with Conotton Valley Schools. Bonnie was an extraordinary cook, creating all of her dishes from scratch without the use of recipes. Some of her particular specialties were chicken and dumplings and black raspberry cobbler. She was a very bright and well-organized lady who made her family a priority.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Lee Cottrell, whom she married August 21, 1971, a daughter Mrs. Shannon (Victor. Jr.) Miller of Bowerston, OH, a grandson Logan (Paige) Miller, and a granddaughter Mrs. Morgan (Bryce) Ferrell, a great-granddaughter Dawsyn Miller, and two sisters.
No formal funeral services are scheduled. Following cremation, her ashes will be buried alongside her son in the Leavittsville Cemetery.
