Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Thanks to a donation from the Dorris and Floyd Kimble Foundation and help from MES Equipment, a local fire department was able to update old equipment.

The Bowerston Volunteer Fire Department will be putting into service 10 new Scott Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and 25 bottles for them. The SCBA’s replace current equipment that were at the end of use, according to Captain Adam Reardon.

“Our old apparatus were nearing 15 years old, which is the end of their life span, and these are modern, have all the latest safety equipment, and are very much state of the art. We’re going to have a long life span out of this equipment that [will] keep our firefighters safe in dangerous atmospheres that they need respiratory equipment in.”

Captain Reardon added that a couple extra details with the equipment include the department’s logo and numbering system, which helps the department to easily identify their own equipment.

They have also updated their Rapid Intervention (RIT) Pack that allows them to rescue downed firefighters.
