Motorists are asked to use caution as US 250 at Midvale goes to one lane and emergency bridge repair work begins.
The project was expedited for the Barnhill Road bridge following a truck striking it in September. Cracks were observed in October prompting ODOT to fully close the bridge.
District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell says starting on Wednesday, US 250 westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane, and repairs are expected to start November 2nd.
“Weather permitting, we expect this work to take several weeks, and it could take up until the end of the year, so ODOT will keep everyone up to date on that, and once the repair work is complete the bridge will reopen to traffic.”
US 250’s lane restriction will be in place until work is complete.
Borell notes this is an unfortunate incident due to a vehicle load not permitted for the bridge height clearance.
“The Barnhill Road bridge has a clearance of 15.2 feet which is a standard bridge height. That bridge was built back in 1966. This is a legal height bridge. Over the years when bridges have been replaced the vertical clearance has increased upwards to 16.4 feet, so for instance the bridge before this one, Johnson Drive, is 16.4 feet.”
Borell could not comment regarding charges toward the truck driver, saying that, if any would be filed, they would be through the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
