Firefighters say this week’s weather conditions elevate the risks for fires getting out of control, and for efforts to combat them.

Dennison fire Chief Dave McConnell says they responded to a large brush fire near the intersection of Tracy road and State Route 800 southeast Monday afternoon that burned about an acre and a half up on a hill in an area with debris from where trees had been removed, there were also some older vehicles there that caught fire.

McConnell says Tusky, Gnadenhutten, Rush Township, and Uhrichsville firefighters assisted with tankers and brush trucks. They were out there about three and a half hours. The cause of that brush fire is unknown. Nobody was injured and no structures were damaged.

“With as dry as it’s been, it’s kind of dangerous to have anything burning outside unless you have a water source readily available, but the dangers still there.

McConnell adds this applies to any grill cooking, especially if using charcoal or wood.
