On Saturday, April 15, 2023, Calvin R. Woods, loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully at the age of 80.
Calvin was born on April 6, 1943, in Dover, OH to Rossie Woods and Carolla (Ogletree). He graduated from Dover High School in 1961. Calvin had a passion for sports and excelled in baseball and basketball. He was an original member of the world acclaimed Dover Basketeers. He became a Dover Little League baseball coach when his sons played. He was a lifelong citizen of the Dover community and retired from Greer Steel after forty-four years of commitment to the company.
He is preceded in death by his mother Carolla, father Rossie, brother Jeffrey Ogletree and son Robert Woods Sr. He is survived by his seven children Vincent Alexander, Valerie Woods, Dale (Dee)Woods, Sonya (Kerry)Townsend, Shawnee Snow, Marcy Jo, Calvin Woods (CJ); and Robbie’s wife Elisa Woods. His brothers George (Violette) Ogletree, Carl Ogletree, Harry (Darlene) Ogletree, Maurice Ogletree, and sisters Jeanette (Grady) Stewart and Lorraine (Barry) Garrett, and 28 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at First Baptist Church. Visitation at 12pm flowed by a memorial service at 1pm. Flowers or donations can be sent to the church in his name at 140 Regent St. Dover, OH 44622.
