Nick McWilliams reporting – Dover residents are invited out this weekend to celebrate the heritage of the city, while planning continues for an upcoming attraction for those with a sweet tooth.

The 42nd Annual Canal Dover Days is set to return Friday, and run through Sunday downtown, with the midway opening on at noon at the end of the workweek.

Live entertainment and vendors will be featured throughout the weekend, and the parade will set off at noon on Saturday, before a performance by the Dover High School Marching Tornadoes on Wooster Avenue.

This year, the city will also host Powerslam Wrestling on Sunday, starting at noon, located on the main stage.

Heading into June, preparations are still underway for the Downtown Dover Chocolate Walk on Saturday, June 10th from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

During a recent council meeting, Mayor Shane Gunnoe said that all are invited to attend to sample chocolate and visit with local businesses.

“During that time, visitors will walk through downtown Dover, visiting many of the participating businesses, and receive a chocolate treat at each location. Participants will be given a map and a passport, and an opportunity for a door prize from downtown merchants, and a special invite for the after party at Hoodletown Brewing Company.”

All proceeds from the walk go towards the Canal Town Book Festival, which celebrates and encourages literacy in the community.

Tickets for the walk are still on sale at The Emporium on Third Street and the Dover Public Library, and the cost is $20.

Online purchases can also be made at www.doverlibrary.org.
