Carl G. Von Allman Sr., 87, of Dover passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023, in the Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Dover.

Born on November 19, 1935, in Shanesville, he was a son of the late Karl and Ester Schnitzer Von Allman. Carl was also preceded in death by his grandson, Gregory Von Allman; brothers, Clarence Von Allman Gene Von Allman and Bud Hummell.

Carl proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he received the following awards, Combat Rifleman, Paratrooper, Silver Star with valor, two Bronze Star with valor, two Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medals, Army Commendation Medals and the Air Medal for which he was the proudest. He received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1965. Carl eventually retired in 1997 from Republic Steel after 23 years of service as a General Supervisor. In his spare time, he loved being outdoors, especially gardening, hunting and fishing.

A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Carl will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Janet A. Kornish Von Allman whom he married on September 13, 1958; sons, Carl (Melanie) Von Allman Jr. of Atwood, Eric (Lisa) Von Allman of Coshocton; sisters, Mary Lou Aston of New Philadelphia, Rose Marie Brinkman of Bolivar; sister in law, Mary Von Allman of Dover; brother in law, Gary (Dinah) Kornish of Arizona; six grandchildren, Kristy (John) Hershberger, Carl III, Dereck, Curtis, Dieter, Matthew Von Allman; and a great grandchild, Jules Hershberger.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. Per Carl’s wishes, there will be no public services or calling hours. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Carl may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral home’s website.
