Carl L. Hinds, 85, of Newcomerstown passed away at his home on Sunday, July 31, 2022. Born March 12, 1937 to Claude and Mabel (Kinner) Hinds, he was a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County. He graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1955 and retired from General Tire, later Boltaron, after 40 years of service. Carl enjoyed working for Addy Funeral Home in his retirement.

Together with his late wife, Barbara Jean (Froelich) Hinds, they founded Tower Hill Angus Farm and raised registered Angus cattle, as well as hogs and sheep. A farmer all of his life, Carl exhibited at the Tuscarawas County Fair for over 65 years. In the later years, Carl enjoyed more of a supervisory role at the fair that he maintained outside the beef barn on his wooden bench. Combining his passion for cattle and agriculture, he was a member of the Tuscarawas County Cattlemen’s Association, Buckhorn Grange, Ohio Angus Association, and Ohio Farm Bureau. He called square dances for years.

Carl and Barb were married on June 2, 1957, and raised their family on the farm. He is survived by his brother, Curt (Joyce) Hinds, 5 children, Debra (Larry) Prysi, Kevin (Gladys) Hinds, Keith (Stacy) Hinds, Carla (Jad) Augustine and Wendy (Jeremy) Rummell; 15 grandchildren, Lawrence (Misty) Prysi, Leanne (Brent) Workman, Kayla Hinds, Kaitlyn Hinds, Kelsie (Brandon) Schwyn, Cole (Alaina) Lorenz, Kyle Hinds, Kelly Hinds, Kirsten Augustine, Samantha Augustine, Annette Augustine, Cedric Rummell, Celeste Rummell, Jerrilynn Rummell, and Jerrica Rummell; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years and an infant brother, Donald Eugene Hinds. Carl and Barb’s home was filled with laughter, dirty boots, neighbors stopping to chat and call-outs of “Mom, Dad, Mamaw, and Pampaw” through the doorway. Carl’s family will miss him dearly but has peace in knowing Carl and Barb are reunited and bringing Carl the ultimate joy.

Services will be Thursday, August 4 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Newcomerstown, with Rev. Bracken Foster officiating.
