Carol Louise Abel, 84, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her home in the Country Club Rehabilitation Center, with her beloved cat and friend, Almond, right by her side.

Born on January 12, 1940, in New Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Gladys Eva Fern Levengood Schlarb.  Carol was also preceded in death by her only sister that she dearly loved, Joyce Hothem.

She graduated from Baltic High School and later worked for General Electric.  In her younger years, she was crowned the Queen of the Swiss Festival, an occasion she always remembered with great fondness.  Carol led a simple life; she enjoyed watching television and rarely missed an Ohio State football game or NASCAR race.  She enjoyed cooking, and was proud of her special recipes, particularly her “white Christmas cookies.” She loved her family deeply, and was appreciative of everything they did for her, especially when they would stop in for a visit.

Carol is survived by her children, Lisa Hagey, Doug (Cindy) Abel, Monica (Scott) Ervin all of New Philadelphia, Odell (Nonnie) Abel of Dover; special nephew, Don Hothem of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held.  The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover is handling arrangements.
