Cathy “Sis” Nign, age 72, passed from this life on Nov 5, 2022, following a brief but hard-fought illness; she was surrounded by family, friends, and their lingering words of gratitude, memories, and unending love.

Sis was born on Sept 14, 1950, in Leesville, Ohio, where she was raised and grew to adulthood in the same family home. She was a 1968 graduate of Conotton Valley High School and married the love of her life, Joe Nign, that same year on July 26. Together, they built a wonderful life that spanned 54 years of marriage and included the blessing of two beautiful daughters, Angie Bailey and Cathy Ackerman. In addition to running a farm together with her husband, Sis worked as a waitress at Atwood Lake Lodge, from its opening in 1965 until its closing in 2010. She also worked for 23 years in Accounting at ODOT.

Sis devoted her entire life to the activities of her husband, children, and grandchildren.  When grandchildren first began to arrive, she became “Nanny”.  It was a name she embraced and a role that gave her a new and joyful purpose.  She was the matriarch and center of her family, hosting homemade meals every Sunday where her entire family could gather together.

She loved to travel and shop, and especially loved the beach–frequenting Sebastian, Florida, and Vero Beach several times each winter. Some of her favorite pursuits involved relaxing in the waves, walking in the sand, and picking up seashells.
She treasured a lifelong relationship with her best friend, Cheryl, who was a constant in her life since their high school years together.

Sis had a remarkably generous heart and always put the needs of others before her own.  She lived her faith and was a long-time member of Leesville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. While her passing leaves a great void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, her legacy lives on through her beloved family. May the chapters of those lives unfold with faith, hope, and the promise of a love that never ends.

Sis was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lois (Karns) and Junie Ashworth, and two brothers, Bill “Harpo” Ashworth, and Eddie Ashworth, all of Leesville, Ohio.

She is survived by daughters Angie (Doug) Bailey and Cathy (Travis) Ackerman; grandchildren Shawn (Jenna Powell) Bailey, Brandon (Kennedy) Bailey, and Tessa Ackerman; and great-granddaughter Hensley Bailey.

A private service will be held at a later date.
