Mary Alice Reporting –
Wednesday afternoon tones will sound in a nationwide test in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission.
FEMA will conduct the test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) on October 4th, at 2:20pm.
Administrator Deanna Criswell explains this is to help ensure that the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) are operational and effective.
“Wireless providers that participate in WEA are required to deliver this test message which will be accompanied by a unique tone and vibration. The test message will read ‘this is a test of the national wireless emergency alert system. No action is needed’.”
Wireless providers will transmit the national test for 30 minutes, but your phone should only receive it once.
Television and radio broadcasters will also deliver a similar test message.
