Tuscarawas County’s Sheriff says it does not appear charges will be likely in last week’s tragic incident where a one-year-old girl was killed by the family’s pit bull.

This happened at a Dover Township home July 2nd. Orvis Campbell says the girl’s mother, who’s been very cooperative, called the sheriff’s office immediately that evening saying the attack occurred after giving the child a bath and as they were walking down a hall the dog attacked.

“The wounds were very severe but it was very quick to one area up near the throat and face, and it was over before the mother could do anything.”

Campbell notes the prosecutor’s office will still review this case. One element they look at when considering charges is whether the dog has a history of violence toward other people, which this one did not.

The family agreed to have the canine euthanized.
