Charles L. “Charley” Knight Jr, 87, of Port Washington, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. Charles was born in Fairmont, WV to the late Charles and Pearl (Phillips) Knight.
He attended Fairmont State College and then went on to Ohio University where he got his master’s in psychology. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Charley was a teacher, a guidance counselor, and a bus driver for 38 years at Indian Valley.
On July 31, 1975, he married Susan (Wilson) Knight who survives. He was a member of the Masonic Temple in Newcomerstown and the West Chester Senior Center. He loved woodworking, having taught shop class for many years. Charley loved gardening, spending time with his grandkids, and his ice cream. He was also a member of the West Union Church of Gilmore.
In addition to his wife, Charley is survived by his daughters, Nedra (Pete) Loveridge of Woodbridges, VA, Phyllis Bachtel of Newcomerstown, and Jennifer Davis (Justin Heston) of Newcomerstown; his grandchildren, Corey Spring of Columbus, Ben Bachtel of Newcomerstown, Dominique (Alec) Dingler of Newcomerstown, Trew Davis (Hunter Jones) of Gnadenhutten, Lacey Davis (Derrick Dunlap) of Newcomerstown, and Destiny Davis (Seth DeVault) of Newcomerstown; and great-granddaughter, Nella DeVault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Rhoades.
A Funeral Service will be held for Charley on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Addy Funeral Home at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Garry Marlatt officiating. Burial will follow at Peoli Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Memorial donations in Charley’s name may be made to the Indian Valley Foundation.
