New Philadelphia Delphian Chorale singing with Kelly Hansen, lead singer of the rock band Foreigner, at Blossom Music Center

Mary Alice Reporting –

Following a vote, several New Philadelphia students headed up to Blossom Music Center on Wednesday to sing as a guest.

A contest was held for a choir program to join Foreigner on stage when they performed at the entertainment venue in Cuyahoga Falls.

Bella Kaput and Gabe Winn, high school seniors, say the group was constantly posting on social media, airing the contest on school announcements, and informing in parent emails, all resulting in the New Philadelphia Delphian Chorale to be the winner.

At the event, before singing, Winn notes that the experience started backstage.

“Being able to be back there was a whole new experience. We didn’t go on the stage until part-way through the song that we we’re singing, “I Want to Know What Love Is”, so we kind of got to hear them start performing it while we were backstage. You’ve got cameras on you and the nerves flowing and then as we’re walking out it’s part way through the song. The crowds going nuts, and you could see all along the hill a bunch of phones with their flashlights on. You couldn’t see anybody, but you just saw thousands of lights. It was really cool.”

Kaput says that they were having a great time listening to songs from other acts and then it was time for them to join the rock-band on stage.

“The whole day was fun even before we even got to go backstage and all of our friends, we were dancing to Styx and everyone before and that was super fun, and then it hit the time and it hit that we were about to be in front of everyone and it was super, super cool. I felt like a wasn’t even scared once I was on stage but there was so much adrenaline when I was standing backstage, and it was so fun. Walking out and hearing everyone cheer. Even when we were performing Foreigner was interacting with us and it was really cool.”

They both agreed it was a once in a lifetime experience.
