Uhrichsville city council officially approves to repay landlords following legal battle.

After Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court ruled that registration fees collected over several years by the city was illegal a civil lawsuit was filed by two landlords.

At one point, law director Jeff Merklin was told by council to reach a settlement. He presented that number, $99,250, but at their May 28th meeting, council denied payment.

At the most recent meeting, Merklin asked for a motion.

What I’m asking for is a check to settle that goes Pro rata to the landlords that participated in the class [action].”

Council members unanimously approved that amount and roughly 300 landlords will be recompensated.

Additionally, attorney fees are unknown at this point, but the city is expected to be presented with a final bill.
