Gwen Rummell Reporting –

In the City of Dover, a contested mayoral race is underway for the November 7th general election.

The race features incumbent Shane Gunnoe and his challenger, Colby Byrom, both sharing viewpoints on community involvement and transparency.

Byrom quoted the City Council President and emphasized the importance of community involvement in decision-making.

“Don’t wait until the problem perpetuates itself. If you see something wrong, come to us early on so we can get it rectified. I would like to see people involved in the early stages even at city council.”

Byrom says he feels well-equipped to become Mayor after serving on the Tuscarawas County Senior Center Board, the ADAMHS Board of Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties, the CMH Board, the Horizons Board, and worked with Dover City Schools.

Incumbent Gunnoe, if re-elected, vowed to continue his work to improve all areas of Dover.

“I’ve really worked hard to restore the public’s confidence in the City of Dover administration. I’m really invested in what Dover looks like 20-30 years from now, not just today. I really want this community to look and be in a much better place.”

After serving as Interim Mayor and then Mayor, Gunnoe has plans to continue with economic development in the city.

On election day, polls open at 6:30am and close at 7:30pm.
