Clair E. “Jack” Snyder Jr., 96, of Dover, previously of Port Washington, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover. Jack was born in Canton to the late Clair and Wanda (Riggle) Snyder. He was one of the last remaining World War II Veterans, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He loved woodworking and won best of show at the nursing home for a carousel that he made. Jack was a great mechanic. He enjoyed repairing, painting, and buying/selling cars. He loved deer hunting at a younger age and was a volunteer fireman in New York. He enjoyed family and had nicknames for all of his family members, and he himself had the nicknames “Coca-Cola kid,” “Snuffy,” and “Farmer.”
On July 30, 1955, he married Gloria Ellen (Shea) Snyder who passed away February 9, 2023. Jack is survived by his children, Linda (Bryan) Gerstung of Gnadenhutten, Jackie (Wade) Wolgamott of Leesburg, and Robin (Mike) Corpman Waits of Port Washington; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bill Corpman; great-grandson, Dylan Markwell; his sisters, Shirley Slinguff and Sandra Highsmith.
A memorial service will be held for Jack on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 12 pm at the Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown with Pastor Jim Shamel officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 11 to 12. Memorial donations in Jack’s name may be made to Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care.
