Ohio school districts could take a financial hit following proposals within the next state budget.

Treasurer Kim Beckley says Claymont City School discussed the potential impact at a Board of Education meeting.

“They put out a simulation to the school districts showing what the biennium budget would look like if things go through the House and Senate as it stands right now, and Claymont is looking at losing $749,845 for fiscal year 2026, which is the 2025-26 school year.

An additional $780,764 could be lost for the following academic year.

Beckley adds that the proposed Ohio budget is under committee review.

“Held at the House level right now, and the House, I believe, is supposed to vote on it around April 9th, and then it goes to the Senate with a Senate vote in June.”

Claymont asks those in their district to reach out to Representative Jodi Salvo and Senator Al Landis to let them know that public schools are valuable.
